MODERATORS

The progressive group Indivisible called for Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday to replace Sen. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) as Democratic leader after the party secured control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

“Yesterday, voters made it very clear that they want a new generation of Democratic fighters,” the group wrote in a social media post. “We need a leader in the Senate who is capable of leading that fight. It’s time for Senate Democrats to choose new leadership.”

The group cited the Democratic leader’s faltering approval ratings in its Wednesday statement. An NBC News poll conducted at the end of October found only 13 percent of registered voters viewed Schumer’s leadership positively.

“The American people did not elect Democrats by historic margins just to bend the knee and go back to business as usual,” Indivisible said in its statement. “Senate Democrats need to listen to the voters and turn the page on status quo politics.”

The paid opposition running the Democrats will not falter in their supporting of their Republican donors' causes.

Both Schumer and Jeffries need to go. Jeffries went on TV not long ago and said he doesn't support dismantling ICE or passing Medicare for All.

For a quick, easy way to directly write to your congresspeople to tell them to oppose Schumer & Jeffries, you can sign these Resistbot petitions:

Reject Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker of the House

Reject Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader

Response I got from Neal. This is why I voted against you in the primary!

While definitely worth signing to cover all our bases, I just want to clarify that each Resistbot petition is sent directly to your specific elected representative/senators as a letter/email from you, their constituent :)

[–] emeralddawn45@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago

And as someone else posted an example of, gets an automated form letter and sent straight to a trashcan. Do you really think anyone is reading those emails?

[–] HostilePasta@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Done and done. First time seeing this site, very easy to use.

[–] whalesnrainbows@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Awesome! Yeah, whenever I have some downtime, I browse various Resistbot petitions and sign a couple.

And secretly met with Kushner to "discuss affordability"

[–] Poem_for_your_sprog@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Why was his primary against a democratic socialist cancelled?

Sorry, do you have some context here? I hadn't heard about that

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because he would have lost and that's not what the establishment wants.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

His opponent dropped out after a DSA vote.

[–] Poem_for_your_sprog@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)
[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

He was a bad candidate, and the DSA is being smart about putting forward quality candidates.

A weak DSA Dem won't achieve anything but making the DSA wing of party look bad. They'll give the old guard something to point at as an example of why DSA is bad for the party and make things even harder.

Same reason the dems refused to let Bernie lead. The dems don't want to be the left, they want to be rich.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I believe Chi Osse dropped out after the DSA pulled its support of them.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

The rumor I heard was basically that Ossa was a poor candidate and the DSA are trying to pick the most solid people to support.

This year Jeffries ran unopposed in the primary because his opponent dropped out.

[–] FukOui@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)
[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

The secret meeting with kushner proved that

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -1 points 2 days ago

Well, no, they're still far better than any Republican, and in fact Jeffries' stance on ICE is being misrepresented here.

This video more accurately portrays that Jeffries opposes how the Trump admin uses ICE to commit crimes.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm fine with that, but I do want to say that is NOT an accurate portrayal of Jeffries' stance on ICE and Immigration in the slightest. Jeffries was a vocal proponent for depriving the DHS of funding early this year, has held press conferences condemning ICE: video link here

~~Then why doesn’t he vote that way? Words don’t matter as much as actions.~~

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 2 days ago (2 children)

When has he not voted in the way that he claims?

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

~~Approving cabinet picks left and right…absolutely caving on the shutdown he had the upper hand on…constantly undermining progressives out of committee positions and campaign funds…~~

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Hakeem Jeffries is the minority speaker of the House of Representatives, NOT THE SENATE which appoints cabinet members.

You're probably thinking of Senator Fetterman, who voted against 11 or half of Trump appointees which is opposing 8 more than the most opposed by any Republican: Mitch McConnell with 3, meaning even Fetterman is better than any Republican.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No I was mixing up this conversation and one about Fuck Schumer.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah that's fair, Fuck Schumer.
