Hello All,

I have an idea that I’d like to turn into an app for iOS and Android. However, I lack coding experience. What is the safest approach to connect with a developer on freelancing websites without risking the theft of my idea?

As an app developer, I have never once had any interest in building a business. My entire career is built on growing my skills in building UX experiences that bring value to the world.

I don’t think any freelance developer has any interest in marketing, advertising, conversion rate optimization, business development, project management, accounting, legal…the list is endless and also depends on the product you’re building.

I’ve worked with enough entrepreneurs to know that I only want to work with people building high-value products…but that doesn’t mean I have any interest in building their business without them haha.

I’ve also watched dozens of entrepreneurs fail (even the best ideas I’ve heard of) so I hold a lot of skepticism for any business idea to actually be a turn-key highly profitable business that I could easily steal and even if I could that’s just not the career path I want for myself.

Ultimately though, it’s actually a red flag for me when deciding who to accept as a client when I sense they’re worrying about me or others “stealing their idea.” It shows that they probably don’t recognize that the key to success isn’t a magic idea…it’s hard work and determination! I’m not trying to make you feel bad though, I’m just saying if you do hire a developer you’re going to have to trust them whole heartedly or it will be your fault when the relationship fails.

My favorite clients treat me like a business partner and give me all the information necessary to make decisions on their behalf :)
