I feel like Jokic, Giannas, and Luka have destroyed stats for me. Getting 36/16/9 is something I don't even bat and eye at, I just go oh, they had a good game. NOT EVEN A GREAT GAME. Just a good game lmao. I remember a time that wasn't too long ago, I'm talking like 2015 where 25/6/6 was a pretty insane stat that people were like damn. I really feel like stats stopped becoming so shocking when Harden and Russ were just getting 30 point triple doubles every night and Russ legit averaged a triple double for like 3 seasons or whatever. Before that nobody had averaged a triple double since Oscar Robertson in 1961!

Does anyone else feel this way? I don't even know what is good anymore honestly or when I should be impressed.

Try to imagine explaining Giannis or Jokic to somebody from 20 years ago when nobody was putting up numbers like that. A guy built like a slightly stretchier Karl Malone with the speed of a guard, who can handle the ball on the perimeter and is a good passer to boot. A traditional centre who can play out of the post and clean up the boards, but he also has a handle and can shoot from anywhere and is one of the best passers in the league history.

These are one of a kind talents we haven’t seen before, players people would have told you couldn’t be real 20+ years ago. Plenty of players will put up those stupid stat lines a few times a year, these guys do it almost every game because they’re special. It’s easy to go “Oh stat inflation” because pace is up and more teams are adopting a high-usage do everything model for their stars, but don’t lose sight of the fact that these guys are also doing things we’ve never seen before regardless of what their box score looks like at the end of the game.

I literally had conversations way back in high school and college that were along the lines of “what if you combined Reggie Miller, and Hakeem to make a massive ball hawk down low who also is quick and has dribbles and can pull up from anywhere.” “Damn that would be the greatest player ever no one could stop him!”

Now we have them. Crazy.
