Local rumors are gambling is about to be legal in Texas (no citation so apologies). It’s either he wants to build the first casino/maybe arena or yeah… run for office
Rockets owner has multiple Casinos, and has been lobbying to legalize gambling in Texas for years. He wants to build a Casino by the water in Galveston.
Massive gambler Mattress Mack from Houston, and interests in Oklahoma, and Louisiana are lobbying against it.

Poker rooms are somewhat new in Texas no?
I don’t know if they’ve always been around or not but they’ve definitely become more popular and visible in Houston. As long as the house doesn’t take a cut from the pot(these rooms use membership fees etc) it’s 100% legal in Texas.
