Here are a few ideas to spice it up:

8 games instead of 4 spread across Nov - December, home and home each team
Tournament starts before new year, finals in the first week of January
Finals held at home of the team with the better record or +/-
Final 4 teams, guarantee entry into play-in/playoffs

This will create added excitement and will keep it lasting into the new year!

Than from this, we have a month to look forward to All Star weekend. Than after that, the NBA Playoffs.

I do wonder what they're gonna do when the league expands to 32 teams. 8 groups of 4 and eliminating the wildcard would make sense. But then that means there's only 3 games played for each team. Might make sense to expand it to play 6 games at that point, especially if the tournament ends up being successful over the next few years.
