Not sure where this idea that the team has to like the reporters that cover them comes from, journalism should be adversarial, the team shouldn’t like you. Deadspin (the original one, not the zombie version that exists now) used to have the motto of “sports news without favor, discretion or access” and I think that’s how it should be.
