Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I see this everywhere. Hidden or transparent monochrome American black flags on large trucks or 4-Runners. Usually speeding or driving aggressively on the highway.

I found this:

The black and white American flag originated during the American Civil War between 1861 and 1865. It was created as an opposing symbol to the white flag, which symbolizes surrender. Confederate army soldiers flew the black flag to demonstrate they would not give in or surrender to the enemy. It showed that they would rather be killed than taken in as prisoner.

And this:

Sometimes soldiers show respect for their country by using the black version on their vehicles

My question is for the people doing this. What message are you trying to send? Are you openly telling your coworkers and neighbors that you are still supporting the South in a war that ended long ago? Are you low key showing your support for Trump? Are you ex military showing support for your country? I ask because at least for me, the message is unclear.

Because he thinks he can read minds and that everyone is as obsessed with race wars as he is?

[–] adroidBalloon@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

because he can read a history book and see racists waving the flag. it doesn’t take a genius to put 2 and 2 together, even if it’s beyond your abilities. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And those who buy them don't bother learning the history of the symbol.

[–] adroidBalloon@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

so, your argument is they’re not racist, they’re just stupid?

lmao

sorry, internet rando who keeps defending racist traitors has a lot less credibility than the deputy director of the FL ACLU.

More like there's better things to worry about than the psuedo-history of a cool symbol. Can't spend your life worrying about what randoms might think, because there will always be someone upset.

Also I did some googling. Nothing came up for the American monochrome "no quarter" flag. What did come up was old pirate flags. I honestly think he just made it up for the article.

Edit: heres the wikipedia article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_quarter

Super side track, what do you think of Tampa Bay Buccaneer fans? Pittsburg Pirates fans? The Pirate Bay torrent site? Disney, who produced the Pirates of the Carribean?

[–] bauhaus@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

you sure seem upset about what people here think about this racist flag you seem so eager to defend. why don’t you practice what you preach?

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ah, I see. You redefined racist to mean "I don't like this"

[–] bauhaus@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

now who’s seeing things that aren’t there? lmao.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And you didn't anwser my questions about the sports teams

[–] bauhaus@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

because it’s a

I can google memes, too

[–] adroidBalloon@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Edit: heres the wikipedia article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_quarter

funny how the flag under discussion isn’t shown or mentioned on this page.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Exactly my point. I think the dude made it up.

[–] bauhaus@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

no that’s you cherry-picking your sources.

got this fun meme from another comment!

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Its literally the wikipedia article for no-quarter flags. What more do you want?

[–] bauhaus@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Its literally the wikipedia article for no-quarter flags.

a wikipedia article that doesn’t even mention the flag under discussion, lmao.

What more do you want?

what I want is less of you defending racism and racist symbols, but I think that’s asking too much from you.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just because some asshat called it racist doesn't mean its racist.

[–] bauhaus@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

you’re welcome to keep defending racism and racist symbols while claiming that. I’m sure other racists will believe you.

[–] Blamemeta@lemm.ee -5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Also, he called it a no-quarter flag, said it's racist because it's a no-quarter flag. And then I showed the wikipedia article for no-quarter flags, and nothing on that page shows a monochrome american flag. And when shown you were wrong, you claimed wikipedia is cherry picking. this is a waste of time.
