Ehhhh.... It's high budget for sure, but I'm just not convinced live action avatar will ever be good. They could've remastered the cartoon with a fraction of the budget.

Fraction of the budget? Depends on how high of quality they would remaster it. If it would be a high quality remake than an animation could easily cost 500k to a 1 million a minute. And remaking it to the quality level of something like the Dragon Prince would be a waste of effort since it would only look slightly better.
