I wonder if the people who make comments like these would feel quite so smug if their likeness was put online for anyone to use to promote hateful or disrespectful content.
If you've ever put a photo online or been in the background of someone else's photos, then you already have your likeness available. With the ease of making deep fakes, there's no way to stop people from abusing it, so there's only a couple ways it can go.
Govt tries to ban deep fakes. This will effectively boil down to making math illegal because the govt is notoriously bad at handling tech laws, and all current AI is is algorithms.
Nothing changes, eventually people realize they need to actually do their research because everything online is fake.
Everyone shuts their brain completely off and assumes everything they see is real. Honestly, this might have the upside of putting an end to celebrity culture because the more exposure you have, the more likely someone is to ruin your reputation.
Depends if they make me look hot tbh
