I don't usually swear on Lemmy, but fuck Unity.

I don't think any studio could predict they'd need to throw out 6 years work on a full game rewrite, nearing completion, but abruptly rendered financially unfeasible because of a greedy engine developer...

Hope this studio is able to keep going.

Unity did roll back a lot of, but not all, the particularly bad stuff with the new pricing. That said I wouldn't trust them to not push it again once people have normalized the current version so I don't blame them for bailing. I'd hope a full rewrite meant they also put work into making a lot of the new code engine agnostic but that only gets you so far when recreating levels, assets, etc. can be such a big investment. I hope they can keep going too it saddens me to see this
