!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

And I'm saying that him acting like a lunatic and literally lying dozens of times publicly destroyed his credibility, not "the media". The documentary does a great job of treating him fairly but most things he said ended up being baseless or false.
I just don't think that's something that's reasonable to by default expect people to be lying about, even if they are known not to be credible, and it definitely isn't a detail that's ever appropriate to omit entirely from coverage of someones death. If that's the attitude towards it then getting away with "suiciding" someone in terms of public opinion has a pretty low barrier for success.
It's a reasonable thing to think that a paranoid drug addict would be saying shit like that for the attention alone. Kinda interesting that this could be controversial imo
He was a mentally ill drug addicted criminal. Kinda obvious that's not a reliable source of info no matter the topic.
If you saw the documentary you'd see he did a lot of weird things to get attention and everyone who worked with him or knew him seemed to agree with that assessment
