Can someone help me understand what's going on with the tariffs?
Twice now he's announced them then delayed them.
The first time he purportedly held off because he got what he wanted with border controls, but if I understand correctly he doesn't actually really care about fentanyl from canada, so if that's just the bullshit reason he gave for the tariffs then why would he be interested in holding off if the bullshit reason was half-ass addressed?
Then why did he pause again the second time?
I'm aware that the imposition of the tariffs would be catastrophic for a bunch of US businesses and industries, but everyone has known that all along. It's not as though he shied away at the last minute because it wasn't looking good. It never looked good. If that is what happened then why say you'll have another go in a month?
Honestly I'm just lost. My best explanation is that he likes how he's dominating international headlines. He's aware that actually implementing tariffs might be regrettable, but when he says he's going to it really antagonises his political counterparts. Like he wakes up every day and thinks "what can I say to rile up that trudeau shit bird today?"
Actually pretty much that. I think his idea, or the ideas of the Wormtongues in his ear, is to cause so much uncertainty that it causes an economic panic in Canada, and to leverage that economic panic or even crash as a negotiating tool for annexation or colonization.
Mafia diplomacy in action. "Wow, it looks like you're having a hard time of it. We can cut you in on our deals, get you outta the hole, but you gotta give us control of your rackets first" - except I'm positive we'll simply leave Canada hanging on that first part, just like we tried to do with Ukraine.
Which is a stupid plan, since Canada has the rest of the world to keep them afloat while they try to hold us under the bath water for electing Krasnov
Yeah ok, that's a good explanation. That's what Trudeau said too.
It seems more like to generate animosity from Canada than a willingness to be annexed.
I think this whole caper has given Canada's progressive party a bump though? So that's nice.
