With the ongoing trade war with the United States, residents are increasingly trying to support Canadian, with seven-in-ten (68%; up 5 points from February) actively seeking out Canadian products when shopping, and over half (56%; up 3 points) looking at labels to avoid products made in the United States.

In addition, a minority of Canadians are using their spending power to avoid buying American, ranging from two in ten who have cancelled a planned trip to the U.S., to two in ten who have deliberately sought out Canadian entertainment. One in ten have cancelled an American streaming service. Just two in ten have not done any of these activities, showing how pervasive the ‘buy Canadian’ sentiment remains. Results are consistent across regions of the country.

...

“Canadians feel strongly about supporting our country’s products, and manufacturers are clearly heeding the call, by helping shoppers to identify products from Canada,” said Narrative Research CEO Margaret Brigley. “Though given how strong the desire is to buy Canadian, there is still room to help consumers to more easily identify Canadian products.”

Sorry, but what's the 51 thing?

[–] cloudwolf@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Referring to Canada as the 51st state.

51st state. Trump wants Canada to be the 51st state.

Oh, right.

Something so incredibly dumb I pushed it out of my brain apparently.

Normally I wouldn't post a Fox News link, but this is funny. Canadian-born actor William Shatner snarked live on TV about the Trump plan of Canada becoming the 51st state and called on PM Mark Carney to make a counter proposal.

Shatner: “Do a real estate deal! Make a counter offer! Let’s offer — Canada offer — to the United States to be the eleventh province! Think of the joy! … It’s the best thing!”

Fox News host Jesse Watters [laughing]: “He should have said that. ... That would have brought the house down.”

Shatner: “I mean, everybody is so serious about what is an un-serious offer ... Canada’s been around for a hundred fifty years ...”

Watters: “Isn’t it about persistence? ... “Carney says, it’s not for sale ... Trump says never say never ...”

Shatner: “At a certain point, persistence becomes insulting!

Here is the Fox News link to the video (Shatner appears at ~3 min).

Oh I saw a pic of this Tampa fan who had the nerve to have 51 (as in 51st State) face painted on his inbred face. Made me so mad.

Yeah I apparently completely shut the whole 51st state crap out if my brain, that should have been obvious.

As an american.... I support your efforts to avoid american products.

And those sorts of morons we are infested with.
