Just from looking at the numbers, I'd say Jayson Tatum in 2022 has a shot at this. He's not an mvp or anything but 2022 was the first year he could build that rep but ended with a 6/18 game and 5TOs, in a series he played trash when they needed him to play his best.
Besides Jayson there's the 84 Finals with Magic Johnson becoming Tragic and his terrible shooting numbers and insane turnovers.
I can't add the entirety of Patrick Ewing's 94 Finals because he was smothered by Hakeem's defense all series.
The 04 Lakers had a pretty horrendous Kobe series and final game 7-21 when Shaq played well enough.
Now for the real KNOCKOUT, closest thing to the scenario you mentioned that I immediately thought of. LeBron in the 07 Finals vs Spurs. The Spurs won game 4 by ONE point, Duncan went 4-15 and 6TOs and Lebron went 10-30 from the field and 2-6FT and 6TOs.
Given that we are on r/nba, I’m a little surprised I had to scroll this far to see someone mention Tatum
The post had a lot of qualifiers for the situation. I had to go deep in my bag for this, all the way back to two years ago
