At this point anything other then that Apple watch...

Yeah, agreed. There are definitely people who just want a cheap basic watch to tell the time and don't care (my dad is one of these), but a lot of those people have been converted to smart watches at this point.

I'd question a brand like Citizen or GShock as primarily a style choice vs an enthusiast choice depending on the model because they're easy to come by, but anything else is probably an enthusiast choice for the watch itself. Most recently I found a guy at work wearing a Farer and, sure enough, he likes watches. He mentioned having a Brew as well.

I feel like this is mostly the US though, the whole country seems to an apple circlejerk as far as I can tell ?

That's not really true. There are tons of people wearing non-Apple watches. That would even include plenty with Garmins or Fitbits.
