There are sects that don't really believe in the end times and rapture, no? Plus these fucks would happily murder this new Jesus without a second thought.
The Rapture is an American Evangelical thing and it's pretty recent too. It popped up in the 19th Century. The other main Christian branches around the world don't believe that's something that will happen.
Most other Christian branches also don't believe the Bible is literal but allegorical so all the stuff about the End times is not to be taken as fact.
The "rapture" sure is a curious thing. For a group that loves to run around and declare everyone a "heretic", the evangelicals that buy into this heresy have a lot to answer for...not that most of them will have to really face any serious inquiry into why they believe in it...
I originally got it from a series I was reading, but I always liked the idea of everyone having to face the afterlife they believed in. I'll return to the universe whence I came, that lot can burn forever in a fiery lake of their own making.
When it comes to things like eternal torture - I think it really demonstrates that many people are not just illiterate, but also criminally innumerate, as well.
Meaning, in this lifetime, you can only possibly commit a finite set of "sins". And that means you could be tortured, according to some, for INFINITY.
Imagine a world where a finite amount of transgressions results in INFINITE torture. Clearly, these people have not really thought it through at all when it comes to what infinity means.
In calculus, when you divide a finite number by infinity, it approaches zero. So, in the head canon of the people that think sinners should be punished for infinity (while the chosen get to watch - this is also a window into the mind of a psychopath, in my view - watching others, being tortured for infinity is your idea of paradise? I don't know even where to begin with that level of sickness.) are effectively being tortured for zero "sins".
What that series Incarnations of Immortality?
