Billionaires should pay for their own fucking stadium

Clayton Bennett is a greedy piece of shit that should pay for his own fucking stadium. Also David Stern is a piece of shit that allowed them to move specifically as a statement to every city that doesn't pay for greedy bitch boy billionaires stadiums.

The flair. The exact quote. It can only be him.

The Warriors owners did and now they're rolling in dough

[–] banned_after_12years@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I remember booing him at the Oracle in 2010 (maybe 2011?) from my nosebleed seats. How wrong I was. Low key best owner in the league.

Were you there for that cringefest after they traded Monta?

Yea I remember being pissed off that they gave some rookie named Klay the green light to shoot as much as he wanted after trading Monta. I was not down with the tanking.

I was like “We got rid of Monta for this!?”

[–] oaklandcholo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Monta have it all!

[–] shall359@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Didn't they move their arena out of Oakland after 50 years and into SF with the new one? Since there was more money to be made in building an arena there and all the Oakland people were pissed off about it and felt betrayed.

California doesn't allow for cities to pay I think. But yeah, Chase center is all the owners. I am exceptionally interested to see how Ballmer designs the Clippers stadium.

[–] Diamo1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ballmer talked about the stadium design on Paul George's podcast

Things I remember him mentioning include a gigantic scoreboard, a standing room only zone that only the rowdiest fans are allowed in, and some outdoor courts outside the arena.

[–] mgrimshaw8@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This article contradicts that. It states that the kings arena was public funded

[–] tistalone@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Kings are apparently an exception within California

[–] cire1184@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a giant Clippy on the roof. Every now and then a screen pops up asking if you need help finding your car.

[–] tistalone@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If Ballmer memes his stadium, I'd visit to check it out!

[–] monononon@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sacramento paid for half of golden 1. I think it's pretty much funded from parking.

[–] LakersLAQ@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I don't mind if parking or some sort of sales tax in the area is used to fund a stadium. It's not ideal, but as a fan, I prefer the option over my team leaving to a different location. At least it isn't screwing the whole state or anything like that. The state funded stadiums are wild.

[–] thecomfycactus@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yup. People can hate Joey “light years” for his comments all they want but all he has done is privately financed an arena and spent shitloads of money on the team.

Every other fan base should kill to have an owner with that mentality

[–] Zoulzopan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

ootl what comments are you referring to?

[–] Hiroxis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They won 4 of the last 10 championships and made 6 finals appearances. The results speak for themselves really

[–] f_real@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They did move the team to San Francisco from Oakland, but they still invested in the team while they were still playing in Oakland. Great way to keep most of the fans who have supported the Oakland based team for decades prior

[–] HoboAJ@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I mean that's basically still in Oakland? Any fans who used to watch the games just have a slightly longer drive?

It's nothing compared to moving from Seattle to Oklahoma.

[–] ChrysMYO@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Or Oakland to Vegas... ^yikes

[–] RageOnGoneDo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The locations of the stadiums are completely different lol. Imagine telling someone from St. Paul that Minneapolis is basically the same, it's just a slightly longer drive.

[–] JefeLummer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I’ll continue to say that there’s not one Dubs fan I know who stopped supporting them when they moved across the bay. For sure there were some ruffled feathers, but it’s really not as big of a deal as some try to push.

The diehards have been priced out of Chase, but that was already happening for the last years at Oracle.

[–] thecheapseatz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

By the time KD joined the crowd had gone super corporate and the atmosphere wasn't as electric as 2012-2016 when they started making the playoffs.

Same reason why the king's were a fun watch this past season

[–] DrKersh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the move was just a technicality, they moved like to a location that's like 10 minutes away from the previous lol

[–] TokyoUmbrella@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tell me you’ve never been to the Bay Area without telling me you’ve never been to the Bay Area

[–] Mosanso@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Socialize the cost, privatize the profit.

[–] chilloutfam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

i wish governments would collectively band together and say that they aren't paying for this anymore.

i can understand a loan for a stadium, but definitely not charity.

[–] Celtic_Legend@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I agree in principle. Say you could choose Seattle or las vegas and both stadiums cost like the same to build. Well las vegas estimates its 50mil/year in revenue if they are chosen. So theyll offer 100m to that billionaire to pick them. But then seattle will offer 150 because its only 1 more year if waiting and then las vegas...

It's stupid af.
