The Lakers would finish last season missing the playoffs for the 2nd straight year…looked good for a while though lol
Rob saved their ass
Honestly if they didnt completely remake their team at the trade deadline, that's how they were trending.
Westbrook died for this
Totally reasonable, I remember the time when people were making jokes about the pelicans who were doing well and they also had the Lakers pick. Seeing the final standings it felt like the Lakers really took it personal lol
Yeah, i was scared to death of what the Pelicans were gonna do to the league after adding Scoot to their WCF squad.
I think it’s hilarious how even after the lakers won a chip bc of the AD trade, people were still acting like the pelicans won it for a bit
Theoretically if the Lakers had been bad, then the Pelicans won the lottery with their pick. You could make a good argument the Pels won the trace
If the Bucks win the chip this year then struggle next year with injuries or fall off entirely, that’s still a win of a trade for Dame. I believe even 1 championship is worth 1-10 bad seasons after. And I think most GMs happily take 3ish years of a championship window if it meant semi-mortgaging the future.
The Raptors sold their souls for a ring in 2019 and they’ve been mediocre ever since (apart from the year after Kawhi left). As a raps fan I don’t regret a single thing.
winning a chip as a result of a trade is the ultimate win, the only thing better is winning two chips. i don't care if the pels get a first overall from the trade, they didn't win shit unless it results in a chip
Lakers season was quite the journey! First half for all the media/podcasters and second half for the fans!
The trade they made with Utah saved their season honestly.
Agreed. They may have had most impactful trade deadline in the history of the NBA last year. Pretty incredible.
Speaking of the Jazz, I think they will surprise some people this year and have set themselves up nicely for building a contender in the near future. I really like what the Jazz and OKC have/are doing.
Mines worse. I was so down on the lakers after year 1 of LeBron that I thought their team got worse after the AD move and would miss the playoffs.
That was a reasonable take until the trade deadline tbf
