Spot On About The bucks

regarding this tweet by NoTechBen on twitter who says

Glad the Bucks won — scrubs are fun — but pretty disappointed in the main guys this preseason. Giannis needs to accommodate Dame more. 3 threes and insisting on taking the ball up with Dame on the floor is just inexcusable. And I have…questions about the defensive approach.

Giannis got his coach and got his trade. He’s going to come in for more criticism if both don’t work out better than they have in the preseason, and it’s going to be legitimate.

It’s preseason and new teams need time to gel.

That said, I think people are really overstating the impact of adding Lillard. I have a lot of concerns about what the Bucks did and it falls on deaf ears amidst the hype. This team is going to be bad on defense, and as good as Lillard is on offense, they already had a guy to go to in crunch time when you needed a bucket so much of what Lillard brings to the table is redundant.

I’m not convinced Bucks even make it to the ECF for the much hyped series against Boston. That defense is going to cost them.

The best defensive team in the league last year started Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland. I think we’ll be ok.

Who lost to the lowly Knicks convincingly.

[–] FKJVMMP@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Their D rating in that series was 111.1, which still would have been good for second best defence in the league last year. 0.5 points behind the regular season Cavs.

Maybe this is profound basketball knowledge for you or something, but there’s actually two ends in a basketball game. A good defence doesn’t guarantee winning if the offence is shit. Lucky for us, we have Giannis and Dame Lillard. I hear those guys go alright offensively.

Please do not compare regular season stats to playoff stats. There are no Charlotte's or Washingtons in the playoffs so don't start with the "Knicks we're a juggernaut" foolishness.

Bro. This is not difficult. The best regular season defence had shit defensive guards. That defence continued being good in the playoffs, despite the loss because of a bad offensive and rebounding performance. Neither of which are likely to be issues for the Bucks. What are you not understanding here?

Knicks had the 3rd best offence in the league last year btw.

So your whole argument is based on what the Cavaliers and the Knicks did in regular season? How does that address changing out a very good two way player for an offensive only player to a team that was already getting handled defensively in its very last playoff series?

[–] FKJVMMP@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hey quick, how is it that we were getting handled defensively? Explain what went wrong for us. In detail. See if you can add 2 and 2 together. It’ll be a challenge, but I believe in you.

The Bucks had problems with depth. They could not guard anyone past their starting 5. They lost their best perimeter defender and replaced him with a worst defender. Having the extra scoring will not matter if the other team scores more because of that. They lost in 5 to a less talented team with more depth. Now they have less defensive talent and less depth. There is your 2 + 2.
