I think we have confused Jokic's distaste for what goes into the NBA media content machine with a distaste for basketball.

Understandable given that, for many fans, the media content and tabloid drama IS basketball.

Buckle up, that will be the narrative around him this year. Each year there has to be a new angle to attack the guy from, despite him never doing anything to warrant it (the discourse around his 3rd mvp last year was horrific and xenophobic). Jokic loves ball, is obsessed to a degree but has also developed a healthy separation between NBA "work" and personal life. This will get misconstrued over and over, used to attack him and honestly it's gross to watch and just furthers the point he's better off just doing what he's doing.

Damn nuggets fans are truly the new Warriors fans lol. Same insane stan energy and inability to take a joke (also young as hell fans).

horrific and xenophobic

Huh? I thought he was MVP too but I somehow missed all the horrors.

Yeah, I mean it's fun to goof a bit on him because he obviously has a rather rich inner life outside the game but he clearly cares about being really fucking good at playing ball.

He likes playing the actual game of basketball, but not everything that comes with the NBA and stardom. I think many players would somewhat agree with that, at least partially.

i think a major part of it is a language and cultural barrier. when people dont understand what is going on they start hating for no other reason
