She's also almost 1000 lbs now! I want to get 200-300 more on her before winter because she'll lose some when the cold comes in.
I'm really starting to think that she'll be able to be ridden come spring. Her energy is great, she's using all of her muscles daily, and is really starting to look good (despite the dirt)
Okay I actually looked into it and it seems senior horses need much more than 3500calories per pound of gained weight, and you're looking at roughly 55 days before winter truly sets in (in my area and ignoring snow days/weeks). So she'd need just under 5.5pounds/day gained and I don't think you'll get there lol.
She's in good hands though! She'll definitely survive this winter with you keeping an eye over her :)
Ah fuck I didn't realize winter was so close. My sense of time has been shit lately lol. She definitely won't lose anything before winter with how much food she has access to lol. I'm honestly surprised that I was able to get her up to a weight that's ideal for her breed. I figured she'd always be a lil skinny, but here we are lol.
