SAY BOOMER SHOOTER

ONE MORE GOD DAMN TIME

[–] GammaGames@beehaw.org 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Why? It’s a genre at this point

[–] eleijeep@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Probably because GenX and Millenials (the actual people who created and played these games respectively) don't like being associated with the generation that's destroying our society and planet whilst being completely out of touch with reality. It was boomers who tried to ban these games, remember?

It’s also used because things tend to go boom in the games

A truly unique feature of the retro FPS genre.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's also way more fun to say than "retro fps"

It's a pun and one of the prominent meanings is "old people like boomers like them", while the other is "rockets go boom". You know this.

Its origin is actually related to the “30 year old boomer” meme. Etymology is fun!
