Course it's the fucken Midwest, love em but I swear those lands have the same properties as the Black Forest or the bogs of Scotland. Which is to say the region is collectively insane in a very particular way.

Kinda, but it's also just an area in which Scots and Germans intermarried and built a culture together.

That's what I was referencing just as a joke about the environment driving them nuts. I'm descended from Scots who were hanging the frontier until the 1870-1880s so our family recipes are a bit unhinged on first glance since they are meant to be filling Incase you don't get to eat for the rest of the day, for example chili and rice with a bit of corn bread mixed in.
