I lurk this sub as a DA who doesn't work with LLMs. I've seen the new executive order on AI in the US, and that the reaction to it is generally negative from the people on this sub.

Can someone explain to me why people in this community and other AI/ML/LLM/CS communities are critical of the Biden's new executive order on AI?

The order says it Protects Americans’ privacy whilst the US government, according to Snowden, simultaneously conducts mass surveillance. Seems odd. So it’s ok for the government to breach your privacy, but not companies. I’m sure AI poses huge risks. But Very wary of regulators being captured by big tech and things being done “for your safety”.
