Hello community,

I own an ASUS X99-A ii motherboard and I’m currently stumped on what I should do to utilize my motherboard fully for my homelab. I’m currently using an NVME ssd for boot but it disables the last two slots on my motherboard.

I’m looking to fill those slots with HBA cards & a Quad Intel 1GB nic for virtual machines. Should I remove the nvme and go with Sata instead? I’m really hoping to get some help with this as I have limited time to figure this all out until January. Any help or positive insights are always appriciated!

CPU is a: XEON E5-2680v4 so it should have enough PCIe Lanes for this board.

You don’t really provide enough information about your homelab. Do you need a 1gb nic for your virtual machines? Tell us what you are doing on your homelab, and we might have more suggestions.

Also, is this your primary computer?
