Lots of milestones this year (2023). Got engaged, acquired a difficult (and expensive) certification, and am about to start a new career.

Photo used is the Chronomat GMT 40 which is what I have my eye on but I’m seeking recommendations to see what I’m missing out on.

I’ll probably never use the GMT feature and this watch only comes in GMT. I like the subtle pop of color on the red hand though.

Here’s what I’m looking for—

  • LNIB or BNIB condition at ~70% off retail, full kit
  • OEM bracelet
  • $4000 max
  • GADA, everyday watch
  • Non-chronograph
  • No numerals on hour markers (on bezel is fine)
  • Must have date window (no day)
  • Reputable brand (Breitling, Omega, Longines, Tudor, etc)
  • Very modern (2020 and later), no vintages
  • 39mm - 40mm
  • black dial for versatility

There are a lot of great recommendations here but I’m going to throw in a vote supporting the Chronomat. Like you, I don’t care much for the GMT complication (especially this one being a caller) but they don’t make a three hander. I’ve handled a green one in the metal and though the case is very flat, that’s the only way I can hope to criticize it. The polished bezel and bullet bracelet are so freaking lovely and give it near perfect wrist presence IMO. Plus you won’t bump into many other people with one unlike the obvious Tudors and Aquaterras which are more common by comparison (but for good reason).
