Hey all! This is my first Reddit post because I’m absolutely terrified for my watch. I recently travelled to Japan and bought a lower end manual mechanical watch— I don’t remember the price in yen but it was about 210 USD. I’m new to the watch game and it quickly became my favorite one I have! The day before yesterday, I was putting it on and dropped it. The face shattered and the watch immediately stopped working. After really gently rocking the second hand, I was able to jiggle the gears unstuck I guess, but it still will stop working randomly so I’m thinking there’s glass clogging the exposed gears. It’s a BEAUTIFUL watch and I really really like wearing it, but I’ve arrived back in the U.S and want to avoid having to foot the shipping bill and wait time for Japan. Can I take the watch to any repairman or watchmaker to fix or would I need to send it back to the company? I know you’d probably need advice about the specific model but I’m not sure; I don’t think they name their models but I can post pictures if that’ll help. So I guess 2 things, anyone who’s had experience with the Mu-ra watches, how do you like them? How do they compare to other watches? And if you know about the repairing process, could I take it to anyone to have them clean the gears out and replace the face? And how much should I expect to pay? Any help is SO much appreciated thanks guys.
I think it's a microbrand. If it's covered in warranty, it's better to let them fix it. Otherwise, just take it to a watchmaker to replace the glass - if it's possible, I suggest to replace it with sapphire crystal for better durability.
