A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

Hi all. Just quick question. For years have been a dedicated wide-angler both in film and digital. Love my 28mm and 35mm lenses. My 50mm lenses usually just stayed on the shelf.

I had the chance to put an adapter on my Fuji which allowed me to use a 50mm lens from my Canon A-1 on the Fuji and suddenly I was in love with the 70mm equivalent on the APS-C sensor. I just used that setup for a whole week on a trip in France. I am now looking for something similar for my Sony A7iii.

I saw the Sigma 70mm 2.8 Art lens but I'm also eyeing the Sony 85mm 1.8.

I do a lot of travel photography, landscape, lifestyle, documentary. This includes portraits but I am not strictly a portrait photographer looking for studio-style portraits. I want a longer focal length while still having a bit of flexibility. I'm wondering if the 85mm would feel too restrictive for me? But also I feel like 70mm is a bit of a strange focal length.

What do you think?

Would consider for the future, but I want something a bit more punched in but not TOO much, at least for now. Realizing it might make much more sense to invest in a Zoom Lens than a prime
