Tonights game pits the 1-7 Panthers against the 2-7 Bears. I for one am incredibly excited because I believe TNF is about watching bad football.

My favorite TNF game of all time was the WK 14 2013 game pitting an awful Texans squad against my own awful Jaguars. Jaguars would go on to win an incredibly ugly and penalty filled (22 of them) 27-20 with Matt Schaub, Case Keenum, Chad Henne, and MJD putting on a show for a national audience that probably went to bad that night with the same feeling as you would have after going minor league hockey game.

What are some other wonderfully awful TNF Matchups that we can remember?

This is true sicko football.

Just think about late May when you would kill to watch two bad nfl teams play

An extremely shitty game is just below a good game IMO. The worst are the games where one team is up by like 17 the entire game.

Even "better", there isn't even really draft position on the line, the one thing that normally makes games like this interesting, since the Bears own both picks!

I’m absurdly excited for this game ngl. Bad football is my lifeblood.

[–] itskapnoc@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Well shit i love me some Iowa football but I’ll be damned if I got to see it twice in one week.

looks at schedule

Well I’ll be damned, it’s really happening.

If bad football is your thing then boy do I have a team to sell you on

Thank you. This really changed my perspective and now I'm excited again! Football is football babyyyy!

ehhhh

that was true for me 5 years ago but I'm starting to get to the point where the quality of the games has been so low for an extended period that I'm getting a little turned off by them. There's a significant officiating issue in the league, QB play is kind of cruddy right now, injuries are rampant, commercials are seemingly more part of the game than gameplay itself, etc

I'll watch tonight because I don't have a ton more to do but football is starting to become a little bit of a chore at times for me. Maybe it's just me

The flags...omg the endless flipping flags...

I’m completely with you on this. Tbh fantasy leagues keep me intrigued otherwise I wouldn’t really care especially since I don’t have a team being in socal i truly don’t care how the Rams or Chargers do.

Fantasy is great for that exact reason tbf. I’d enjoy Redzone on Sundays regardless, but I wouldn’t care nearly as much if shit talking rights weren’t on the line.

As for games like this one, there’s no need to be live imo. I wait until around the 4th quarter starts; then I catch up. You can do it remarkably quickly and see literally every play. It’s perfect. Idk why I haven’t done it as much in the past.

I'd be curious to know if the amount of commercials has gone up in the past 5-10 years. Most people don't see commercials when watching other things because of streaming. And a lot of us watch Redzone where there is minimal commercial.

Rant time: Redzone, while I still love it and it is my preferred way to watch football on Sunday afternoons, has been adding ad spots in and I don't like it. Occasionally the game goes to like 75% of the screen and we get bright ass red Patrick Mahomes slinging insurance taking up the rest of the screen. Use to be all the stats were just stats and now they are "X stat brought to you by mega corp". That's not too intrusive but when you sell a product on you pay for this service and we promise no ads, I want no ads!

Thank you for reading my ted talk.

Doesn’t help that the NFL’s bad games aren’t as fun as CFB’s bad games where you have things like 7-3 (no touchdowns scored) that are just so ludicrous you can’t not enjoy it.

I've pretty much stopped watching football together, for the exact same reasons you mention. I'll check out scores on GameDay and occasionally this sub, but that's the extent of my involvement with the NFL.
