An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

I noticed this in the mcdonalds parking lot, so I poked around in it with a stick to try to clear the drainage path.

I came to the conclusion that it has no outlet at all, it’s a permanent stagnant pond. It stinks pretty bad.

Contact your local mosquito control agency

Y’all have mosquito control agencies?!

[–] Steve@startrek.website 31 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Sure do! They even have an open house every year and the kids get to sit in their helicopter.

Edit:

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Why do they need a helicopter? More importantly, do they call it "The Skeeter Beater?"

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's to disrupt the mating cycle. When you fly around in The Skeeter Beater it sets an unobtainable standard for male mosquitos and the females lose interest.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Genuinely don't know if you're kidding or not. Movie idea: aliens do this to humanity.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Plot twist: they already create unobtainable standards with celebrities.

[–] silver@das-eck.haus 4 points 2 days ago

Ryan Gosling is actually a fish alien

The drop pellets into ponds, marshes, etc that disrupts the mating cycle. They may also release sterile males.

Here in south Mississippi, absolutely!

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We could certainly use one here in Coastal Carolina, but we’re just left to fend for ourselves…

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

What part? We have that here around Sacramento.

Edit- I'm an idiot... I could've sworn you said coastal California.

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I guess trying to control mosquitos is officially woke.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I thought they said coastal California. It said Carolina. My bad.

Also, controlling mosquitoes is def woke. They are the deadliest animal on the planet. Despite ICE thinking it would be anyone slightly off-white.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Dry ice is definitely white...

This is how our skeeter control works.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's common in the tropics where mosquitoes can carry deadly viruses

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We have them in Minnesota too.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oof, stay warm up there, and stay safe..

Fuck ICE, except the kind of ice that freezes the mosquitoes...

[–] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

except the kind of ice that freezes the mosquitoes.

Even that kind of ice sucks. The mosquitoes that live in those frozen places thrive because all the ice melts into ponds and lakes all over, creating breeding grounds for the mosquitoes whose eggs can survive freezing.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Oh? Well maybe my elders weren't as well educated, as that's what I was always taught, that hard freezes supposedly kill off the eggs. Fuck I dunno, if you go out of the city and into the sticks, the skeeters are hella crazy for blood!

I dunno, but here in south Mississippi of all places, I've probably only been bitten by mosquitoes like 6 times in the past 10 years. But the retired mosquito control guy is covered in what's basically obvious skin issues and even skin cancer, likely from the chemicals...
