The medicine treats the symptoms and may be a useful tool for getting better but people really need to address the roots of their issues as well if they want to improve long term. It is tough to swallow sometimes and having friends and family to give you a push helps a lot. I've argued with friends for hours that they are capable of joining me on a hike. If i eventually win and they come, they tend to be very happy afterwards and say the effort was worth it and appreciate the push.

I have some unemployed friends who claim just 1 more medication switch and I'll be ready to face life again. Then they switch, do nothing but play video games while letting their parents do all the chores etc and they wonder why they feel like shit still. I tell them to try to tough it out through some part time to at least make some progress and they resist and resist to no end. They claim they have to get better to participate in society again and i think thats very difficult to do without a purpose beyond minecraft and netflix.
