The reduction in funding for these kinds of events just seems penny-wise pound-foolish.

In Kelowna they close several blocks of their main street downtown during the summer so that restaurants can expand their outdoor patios.

It's really nice and I think more cities should do it.

Right? It's awesome having Bernard turn into a giant mixed use path with bonus patios. This is in Kelowna of all places, one of the most car happy places with dismal transit, and despite that most people still get behind this.

Yeah even Windsor ( the Motor City) did this. What's wrong with Vancouver these days??

Hamilton does this in summer, and it puts you 12 inches away from car exhausts as you eat.

Oof. They must do it different than. In Kelowna they close down the entire street. So both sides the restaurant patioes extend into the street and its only pedestrian traffic.

They let patios build on road parking spaces, you get the aroma of automobile paired with fear of getting run down by an SUV. It brings vitality.
