I picked up a Zotac 4060 last week to use for transcoding. It was a good price, compact, and 115w Max. I thought the R740 could handle up to 200w for a GPU. I know the Quadro P4000 is 105w and it works in the R740.

I installed the card in Riser 1 Slot 1, and moved my HBA to Riser 2, Slot 1. Booted it up and I couldn't see the card. Played around with a few things and then realized it needs additional power. I hopped online and found a power cable I need to connect it to the motherboard. It came today. After seeing where the plug is on the 4060 I had to move it. The ONLY option was Riser 2. I managed to get it in there and connected it to the RSCC 225W plug for Riser 2 PCIe Power. When I booted it up I got a message that the system is trying to draw too much power and I needed to check or replace the PSUs.

The system still booted, but the card never worked. I thought I had plenty of overhead for a GPU, but clearly I do not. I have 2x Xeon Gold 6150 CPUs, so does that make a difference? Am I SOL? I don't wan to spend $250-300 on a 10yr old card that has 5x less processing power.

Help/suggestions??
