I remember a DiY post on the other site where someone buried a shipping container in their yard and was making it into an underground bunker.

Everyone freaked out about carbon monoxide poisoning and told them to never go down there even with fans running.

I'm guessing from a generator?

Also, from what I've seen, there's also a significant risk of a shipping container collapsing because they are built to handle lots of pressure from above but pressure from the side can disrupt the structural integrity and let the weight crush it like a can.

It might have just been CO2 accumulation they were worried about. CO2 is heavier than N2 so it pools at the bottom of places like that and you wouldn’t know until it was too late.

Aha! Yes, I know this because I have played Oxygen Not Included, and now I am feeling very smart.

actually i think the body has receptors for CO2? not for CO though. like CO2-rich air outright smells sour.

Fun Fact - Your body cannot sense when air doesn't contain enough oxygen to keep you alive. However it can sense when there is too much CO2 and causes you to panic.

Depends. The reflex can get fucked up in certain long term lung disorders or some people intentionally fuck theirs up for freediving. It's a contraindication to gaseous nitrogen for MAID / death with dignity.

If my red blood cells crave that CO more than O, who am I to deny them?

Was it the one with the furry carpet fire hazard all over the walls or was that a different DIY bunker disaster?
