the reason is you care about the people around you. every time i've seen an american cinema it's looked like a nightmare.
The ones near me have been pretty well-kept, but I imagine it varies by site. Either way, I fail to see how laughing at jokes means we don't care about each other? I usually feel a sense of ease and connection when a theater collectively laughs quietly at a funny moment. A messy theater existing somewhere doesn't change that moment into a bad one.
it's just a matter of different atmospheres. people here want to be completely immersed in the experience and someone making noise around them ruins that. even children's films tend to have completely quiet theatres because everyone is so focused.
Different strokes, I guess. This is a bizarre shot against the US though. I could take the same shot against your country for inverse reasons, but that would be silly.
