Well, they registered levels of noise higher than the safety margin in people's backyard during the test phase... So yeah, there a pretty good reason to complain when you have to hear that every 4 minutes...

Cars are equally loud and even more pollution, we should never have to endure more than 60db. https://www.berlin.de/umweltatlas/en/traffic-noise/noise-pollution/1993/map-description/ If we build more elevated trains, the needs for Cars is reduced and we could move the train to the ground where right now a lot of Streets/Stroads are. Current numbers vs a study from 1993.

I would also ask you to point out where I said that cars were any better... Although let's be clear, cars produce the same level of noise at speeds/RPM that are of no concern in urban areas, which is not the case for the REM as it produces that noise in urban areas.
