Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
😇 Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
🏘️ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
🧬 Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
📋 Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
📬 Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.

🏴☠️ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,

🍿 Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists
The following artists are banned from the community.
- Jago
- Stonetoss
It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I just found 96 liberals who fit that description.
Saying "hey they might have cared a bit about institutions compared to maga" is not venerating.
Not the same meaning at all. Not even close.
So no you didn't find 96 people that fit that description.
When you mingle meanings like that, I'm just gonna leave it at that.
"Venerate" may be an exaggeration, but the rest of it, thinking everything was "respectable and dignified" and "completely whitewashing the horrors from their minds" fits that to a T.
You found 96 people who upvoted the comment saying Trump is worse than bush was and that Mitt Romney would be better than Trump is.
There’s nothing there saying Bush or Reagan were good.
Feel disgusted defending is still defending.
But it’s not saying Bush or Reagan are good.
Nobody said "good." The other user said "venerating" which was an exaggeration but all the rest of what they said, thinking "everything was respectable and dignified” and “completely whitewashing the horrors from their minds” 100% applies to that comment.
No it doesn’t.
I’ve said it elsewhere in this thread but I’d rather get shot in the arm instead of the head but that doesn’t mean I think getting shot in the arm is good.
That is the point that comment is making.
That's ten thousand percent whitewashing.
There used to be a day when republicans sold out the US they made damn sure it was to an American.
I get their sentiment behind that statement.
So then the reason you don't think anyone's whitewashing anything is because you also whitewash them.
That’s not at all what I’m saying.
It certainly sounds like it is.
Bush did not "actually care about America." He sent Americans to die in pointless wars so that his rich buddies could get even more rich. He pioneered the surveillance state. He created ICE.
If you hadn't forgotten the horrors and weren't whitewashing him, you'd be as disgusted and repulsed by anyone talking nonsense about how he was "respectable" or "cared about America."
Bush was a horrible war criminal who should be spending the rest of his life in gitmo untouched by light but I’d rather have him as president right now.
And you don't have any problem with people saying that a "horrible war criminal that belongs in gitmo" "actually cared about America?"
That comes right back around to the point that when Bush sold out the US he sold it to Americans.
So does Trump.
If anything, selling out to foreigners would be preferable, because the American bourgeoisie are the direct enemies of the American proletariat. The stronger and richer they get, the more power they have to make my conditions worse, to make me accept lower wages, to endure and subvert strikes and unions. It's just straight up nationalism to think strengthening the American bourgeoisie somehow benefits regular Americans, like it's gonna trickle down somehow.
Cone on we’re having a good conversation here speak English.
I don’t read enough theory for that to make sense to me.
When the rich get richer, they have more power to make poor people's lives worse. I don't want rich Americans to get richer because they will use that to keep me down.
If you only care about rich Americans or white Americans, you don't "actually care about America" in my book.
That’s probably where the disconnect is because republicans think to be American you have to be rich and white.
