Wait, can someone explain why the Mavs player gave the ball back to the Ref? It seemed like a love ball cause everyone was going for it- was it just a tech and they were confused?

I assumed it was a turnover because you have to hit the rim on a FT attempt (to prevent intentional misses with people just throwing it off the backboard lol)
