It's because they fill victim to the bad capacitor wave of 2k and burned billions of dollars replacing the mainboard from almost every Netvista desktop made. I know because I was the guy replacing them.
did anyone ever sue the capacitor plague manufacturers to recoup their costs?
I recall it being a Chinese company, and it was the year 2000, so no.
the cap plague all came from a single chinese manufacturer? I thought it was across many manufacturers world wide
Something about experimenting with electrolytes in the capacitors or something, i think? i dont recall well enough to state it as fact.
You nailed it. I can't remember how many manufacturers it was. I thought one because they were all caps with an X on top
the marking on top of a capacitor are purpose built weak/failure points so if the cap overheats the pressure can be released there, in a controlled failure, as opposed to becoming a mini-pipe bomb.
Often, I think, its an X, sometimes a manufacturer might use another letter like K or T though.. I dont know why, presumably something with branding.
