Any books that read like The Hobbit? (lemmy.ca)

I'm trying to get back into reading, and for a few weeks have been reading a chapter (or half) of the Hobbit before bed.

Does anyone have recommendations for similar books? I'm not up to reading LOTR yet.

What I'm looking for are relatively chill books that don't stress you out before bed, something that I can just let my imagination run with abd has a cozy feel, if that makes any sense at all.

Don't care too much about genre, but I do like fantasy.

Edit: I should add I don't like books like Candide or Hitchhikers Guide, HG was fun, but I can't do "and stuff just keeps happening to the main character" types. And I know Candide is purposefully frustrating, bit it was too effective.

Now many of those books, will have pretty heavy content storywise, but they are very dialogue centric and great easy reads, while still being awesome.

The only issue you may run into with using any of them to fall asleep is you may find to be “page turners” so you may not want to stop reading.

Is Watership Down chill? My understanding was it’s pretty dark — I feel like I need a bit of an escape from that, if that makes sense.

No, Watership Down is full of disturbing events. It's a great book, but not cozy.

The Girl With All the Gifts was cozy for me, but in a "death is beautiful" kind of way, like the story of Hel, for example. It's a zombie apocalypse in which the child zombies are mysteriously sentient, but still crave living flesh and will attack uninfected humans. The bulk of the book is action scenes along the road to solving the mystery of why. It's not what I would typically think to recommend as cozy to someone, but I can't recall any especially intense scenes.

No the story is very heavy at parts.
