But he was quitting. They sure hassled him though.

Yeah, when the show came out it was very well regarded as being pretty accurate.

Obviously it's a TV show, but most of the hacks were real or based on real hacks and techniques. From what I recall most of the hacks were social engineering (dropping the USB drives trying to get someone to plug them in, using physical access to install a raspberry-pi on the network, etc.).

Realistically, I think that raspberry-pi would be found pretty quickly today. And those USB sticks would probably now trigger a visit from IT (everything you do on your corporate computer is logged. If you plug in a USB stick your admins can/will know about it, I had a friend who's employer threatened to sue them because they downloaded personal documents off their computer using a USB, and the employer threatened to sue them over stealing trade secrets, which sounds dumb, but it was basically blackmail to try and stop him from getting another job).

This might be the stupidest comment on this whole website.

I am awful at spending money.

I have many more years of life left, and what if I need it more matter than today?

It’s why I never use potions in games.

I briefly worked on a live stream app, yes.

New users generally get a boost.

The algorithms don’t know if your content is good, or bad, or who will like it. So to solve the cold start problem of where you fit into things without knowing you, you get a boost.

100k seems a lot though. But I’ve never used TikTok.

Imagine:

  • matching employees to jobs they are good at and enjoy, even if not physically nearby (a lot of good people have to take care of family, or have support networks they can’t/shouldn’t leave)
  • having a minimum of 30 more minutes a day back because you don’t have to commute
  • having a private quiet office to work in. Virtually no offices have private offices anymore.
  • having all your accessibility requirements met by default
  • being able to have healthier and cheaper lunches because you’ve got your full kitchen

There are things I miss about the office for sure, but I like remote work a lot.

There’s no reason to release a well placed em dash. They’re a standard grammatical symbol (with built in keyboard support on macOS).

I feel like there's one of those IQ bell curve memes: the low IQ "I just enjoy the game", middle is "but what about XYZ and the optimal experience and the format", and on the right with high IQ "I just enjoy the game".

I have watched enough horror movies to know that the critics and people who review things online are so far out of my taste-zone that their opinions are entirely meaningless to me. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see an analysis that makes you view something in a new light and really think about it, but the online dredge of "X thing is not good and you can't like it" is stupid.

To grossly misuse Platonic idealism, a game is a good game if you enjoy it. A movie is a good movie if you enjoy it. A book is a good book if you enjoy it. What the hell else is there?!

Or when grok bought Twitter

Have you tried this?

Stiff enough to get in there, but won’t cause damage or hurt. We have a couple, they work well.

Surely this won’t cause any problems at all

Unfettered access to the internet lead to me learning programming, web design. math, video game development, and that helped me learn a ton of other skills and land my career.

Not to mention all my homework with Wikipedia and finding high quality sources from the references.

It’s fucking useful.

I'm trying to get back into reading, and for a few weeks have been reading a chapter (or half) of the Hobbit before bed.

Does anyone have recommendations for similar books? I'm not up to reading LOTR yet.

What I'm looking for are relatively chill books that don't stress you out before bed, something that I can just let my imagination run with abd has a cozy feel, if that makes any sense at all.

Don't care too much about genre, but I do like fantasy.

Edit: I should add I don't like books like Candide or Hitchhikers Guide, HG was fun, but I can't do "and stuff just keeps happening to the main character" types. And I know Candide is purposefully frustrating, bit it was too effective.

There’s only 1 Caesar, or Slim Shady, or Charlemagne or Attila.

It drains very well now.

Using as a snake tool worked way better than trying to hook the mess with a screwdriver and pliers.

I do not recommend doing this.

Each time I washed it salt would recrystallize as it dried, so after 3 washes I decided to soak it in a lot of water which resolved that.

Then I went to use the salt and without any salt build up it poured out way quicker and ruined my breakfast.
