Chet Holmgren’s rookie year stats are insane. 15.7 pts, 2.6 assists, and 7.5 rebounds (with 2 blocks and 1 steal) per game.

Throw in his shooting splits of 52.7 / 46.3 / 90, a feat achieved only by nine other players in the NBA, and you not only have an argument for rookie of the year but a historic one at that.

For comparison, Wembanyama is averaging 18.6 points, 2.5 assists, and 9.3 rebounds (with 2.4 blocks and 1 steal) per game, but at much less efficient 43.2 / 28.3 / 76.6 shooting splits.

Regardless, excited to witness the dawn of what could be basketball’s next great rivalry.

Who do you guys think deserves ROY?

Chet is playing alongside Shai, who is a superstar averaging 28/6/6 so obviously it will be easier for Chet to score when the defense isn’t going to be focused on stopping him the whole game. Chet is a piece of the OKC system whereas Wembenyama is the system for the Spurs. The games they play are different.

Wemby is definitely not a tier above lol

Chet is 7'1 and Wemby is 7'4 so of course as rookies its expected he can handle the ball better and have better hands. PG13 has better "technical skills" than Lebron but nobody thinks hes better than him. You can't just look at one facet of the game and judge an entire player like that, you have to look at their impact on winning.
