Chet Holmgren’s rookie year stats are insane. 15.7 pts, 2.6 assists, and 7.5 rebounds (with 2 blocks and 1 steal) per game.

Throw in his shooting splits of 52.7 / 46.3 / 90, a feat achieved only by nine other players in the NBA, and you not only have an argument for rookie of the year but a historic one at that.

For comparison, Wembanyama is averaging 18.6 points, 2.5 assists, and 9.3 rebounds (with 2.4 blocks and 1 steal) per game, but at much less efficient 43.2 / 28.3 / 76.6 shooting splits.

Regardless, excited to witness the dawn of what could be basketball’s next great rivalry.

Who do you guys think deserves ROY?

do we really need a post after every chet game reminding us that he’s shooting 50/40/90

[–] p3p3_silvia@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I have to endure Jaquez posts for much less

[–] KnickedUp@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wait til GSW start with the Podz threads

[–] achyutthegoat@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Hate that I have to admit that he's actually better than Wemby this year

[–] J-Rock515@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As long as Wemby reaches his potential or at least comes close to it, I could care less who wins ROTY.

No. He isn’t doing enough imo, needs to match Paolo stats or get close

[–] CofTheEast@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Knew this was going to be a Wemby comparison post lol

[–] StewartTurkeylink@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wish OP was at least up front about it

[–] WTakesOnly@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Wasn't he 50/50/90 lol, it's dropping

[–] Funny-Examination3@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He'd be on GOAT trajectory if he could keep up 50% from 3.

ROY goes to whoever can successfully post up on CP3

[–] Todemax@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Whoever scores over CP3 the most this year gets ROY, got it

[–] OKC2023champs@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

37-38 from FT over the last 10 games

[–] yOw_indahOuse@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I expect no less from real-life Anton Ego.

I’m not sure, I’m mostly just excited to see this debate on this sub every day for the next five months.

I love Wemby v Chet. I'm so glad we have another Jokic v Embiid MVP debate. Such an exciting discussion that's not at all tedious

Best rookie in the league easy

[–] ihatenazis69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

wemby owns that fraud

[–] everyoneneedsaherro@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Chet is the better offensive player. Wemby is the better defensive one

[–] kit_kaboodles@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I'm just enjoying the fact that a pair of rookies I have followed for years are in the league and playing well (for rookies).

Obviously Chet will be in the running for ROTY, but I don't put too much weight on who's ahead after 12 games.

[–] rattatatouille@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

50/40/90 as a rookie would be an insane feat, "easy" shots or no.

[–] Stebsy1234@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

But can he post up Chris Paul?

[–] kennethw85@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Chet has many incredible pointguards and ball handlers on his team.

wemby has sochan (and tre whenever pop lets him play)

their situations and roles are not the same. both are amazing but can't really say which is better than the other yet

[–] JackBauerdiditinday@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

To be consistent and not being hypocrite I say what I said about ben Simmons "not a rookie"

[–] darelesstillidie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Rookie of the year awards goes away with the clip of getting crossed by Andre Drummond and getting held up by CP3

[–] Kdog122025@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Dude’s gonna be an absolute monster after a few years in the weight room and all you can eat buffet. Chris Paul stone walled him three times in a row on post back downs.

[–] Single_Passenger@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Wemby clears if you swap teams.

[–] drkmani@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wemby wouldn't be shooting 50/40/90 if he was playing at Gold's Gym

[–] doppido@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He's not playing like a rookie cause he's not a rookie

[–] Potential_Quail6668@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

wembanyama wouldnt let chris paul stop him in the post. people who watch basketball know wemby is better, people who look at numbers think chet is better.

[–] yummyass69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Chet is playing alongside Shai, who is a superstar averaging 28/6/6 so obviously it will be easier for Chet to score when the defense isn’t going to be focused on stopping him the whole game. Chet is a piece of the OKC system whereas Wembenyama is the system for the Spurs. The games they play are different.

[–] waynequit@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Wemby is definitely not a tier above lol

but he can’t back down cp3 /s

[–] BoneDollars@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s having a historic rookie year!!!!! (12 games into the season) lol

[–] moleratty@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Always good efficiency as 3rd option

[–] Kablaow@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

The difference, I think, between Chet and Wemby is that Chet is being played more like a role player, while Spurs just let Wemby do his thing to shape him like a superstar. They have nothing to gain by winning 5-10 more matches, rather just let Wemby get comfy being the 1st option.

I wouldn't call the insane lol

[–] Drag0nborn1234@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Alright guys, pick your favourite and stick with it, this gonna be the sequel to Jokic Vs Embiid.

[–] pohovanatikvica@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

There's hope

[–] Interesting-Test180@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

New age Dirk?

[–] em_washington@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Assuming he stays healthy, Wemby will win RotY. I wonder if Chet played like this last year if he or Paolo would have won.

[–] snoopdawginthehouse@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Seems like he is fitting nicely with existing Thunder system. Can we generate his own looks? That would be huge

[–] Emera1dthumb@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Watching those two play against each other another day… reminded me why the league started to push the focus on spacing. Clogged up lanes make for boring basketball.

[–] randon007@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

If you want to talk efficiency, his teammate Cason Wallace with 64/59/100 splits!

[–] Critical-Adhole@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He’s been good but is completely overshadowed by Wemby
