A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

hi all! I'm a a 27 year old woman, I recently started photography. I have an Instagram page, I also post in local TFCD groups looking for models so I can practice.

in the past month, more weird people have found me than normal ones. I had one dude who was asking for artistic very close up dick pics, who was clearly nuts so I declined. yesterday I posted to a group looking for a model for a Xmas studio slot I have, and of course within a few hours some guy messages me looking for artistic nudes.

is this a market gap here? or are they just perverts looking to make a move just because I'm a young woman? have you had any similar experiences?

Male nudes is a gap that often isn't filled, but few men want nudes for not-creepy reasons.

I'm male, and I get those calls sometimes. Talking about expectations, usually either as soon as I talk about boundaries they go away, most often after "sure, I've done some boudoir and nude work. Let me know what you're looking for let's see if it's something we can work out". I had one who just couldn't understand that closeups of his erect penis crossed the line into porn. I had another who wanted to book me for his teenage son, who supposedly asked for them. He was fine with me requiring proof of age, but got uncomfortable when I said I wanted to meet his son ahead of time to discuss what he wanted and was comfortable with. I suspect it wasn't his son.

This might be unpleasant to hear, but at least some of these calls I know are from people who, for creepy reasons, get pleasure from just suggesting it. These types of contacts often gravitate especially toward women. To filter out the guys who want to DO the shoot for creepy reasons, if you don't want to just not do male nudes at all, lead early with prices and boundaries, and be insistent on chaperones. Usually I'm more worried about clients, especially women, bringing a friend since I think that practice should be more normalized, if I were a women with a male client doing boudoir, nudes, or anything along those lines I'd want my own friend there. That may scare off some legitimate clients, but there are ways to preserve the client's privacy while doing that and most guys would get it.

I've done boudoir for women, but despite having gotten more initial requests from men, the closest to a boudoir shoot for a man I've shot was some fitness photos for one guy. Lots of body-building poses in shorts, and a few in his wife's favorite jeans and a dress shirt in various degrees of button-ness. He drove over 90 minutes to get it since he couldn't find anybody closer, despite calling both general portrait and boudoir photographers.

I've thought about trying to generate buzz for men's boudoir, since I know a lot of straight women would really appreciate tasteful, clothed, but sexy photos of their partner. I keep hearing from women who would want what I'm doing from their man, but men mostly don't believe it. It's a little easier with gay men, but that's a small slice of an already small market.
