Again, the practice has been cracked down on, and was largely in bleeding edge tech companies. It isn't the backbone of the Chinese economy, nor is it the norm.
Plenty of people do, but i failed to find any polls or statistics.
Its ridiculous to use a social media comments section as evidence, but there's nothing better, so here you go.

I agree that it's ridiculous to use social media comments as evidence. Chinese workers work on average 46 hours a week. This is a fact, and the median is lower as the sectors 996 was found in before the crackdown raised the average, largely in Beijing and Shanghai, and largely in the tech sector.
