I am pretty sure the subtle joke is actually that he chooses all the letters for BINGO except for I. So it is in another way mentally guiding you to fill in that letter for the solved puzzle. That is the most clever part of the joke to me.

That has to be it because the the actual show gives 6 letters, RSTLNE, meaning Randy needed to guess N
