I guess they are starting to feel the strain of hemorrhaging billions of dollars for data centers.

They're figuring if AI is not deeply embeded and people totally addicted to using it by now it's not ever going to happen, so it's time to let the trap shut and see what they caught.

The market is insane. The valuations for stocks connected in any way to "AI" have no connection to reality whatsoever.

[–] spankysalmon@fedinsfw.app 5 points 1 day ago

It never has had any connection to reality. It's always been at the whims of ignorant rich fucks that own most of the stock.

You just described the entire stock market since the dawn of currency.

AI is just the newest buzzword.

My Microsoft stock has not soared. :(

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ha ha! Thats what you get for supporting them financially.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I didn’t? I worked for them and the stock was part of my pay package.

[–] spankysalmon@fedinsfw.app 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't mean any malice by this, as I understand what a pay package is, but you really should've started selling when "microslop" took off as a nickname.

and if they don't allow you to sell, you should've known you were being lined up as a patsy for the c-suits.

I should have sold in October when it was trading at $520. But hey, at least I didn’t sell in March-April when it was at $380.

The thing is, if you sell ~$100k in stocks (that you “bought” for way less than that), that’s a huuuuuge tax bill for the year, so I try not to sell in enormous chunks like that.

and neglecting most of its other services. big mistake was having OPENAI attached at the hip with MS.
