QB’s that can process quickly THRIVE in Shanahan’s offense. It’s why he and Matt Ryan were a perfect match. Purdy is just like that. Yes he has a lot of weapons, but he’s a good QB. Especially in that system.

I'm convinced that's the most important trait in drafting a QB. Anyone who is drafted is going to have arm talent but making a read and throwing the ball quickly is what separates a back up with a top level starter.

I don't know of any QB that is considered top tier that has slow decision making.

Always has been.

But seriously, that’s the difference between the perennial backup who ends up being a coach and the Brady/Manning/Brees types.

It’s not enough to understand the game in theory and work hard; you have to be able to “digest” what you’re seeing as fast as it happens.

It’s kind of like reaction time, it’s like a mental trait that is largely genetic and then you have to work to build all the skills around it.
