Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I wish people would be at least a little more normal. It's a bit weird when you join Lemmy and the front page is full of furries, femcels and other niches you never heard of.

But I get it. There aren't many other places left for unusual people. So I guess you better get used to it.

Those are quite ok, the main boogeyman is the tankies.

Better than nazis.

Unlike Reddit, Lemmy makes no attempt to spoon feed and algorithmically tailor to what it believes will garner the largest audience.

You have to do a little curating here. Block users, communities, and even whole servers that you're not interested in and suddenly the whole experience changes.

I very very rarely block users or servers because I don't want to put myself into an echo chamber, but I have a long list of communities blocked because I have no interest in them whatsoever. There could be anime girls posted every 10 seconds with thousands of upvotes for all I know, but I've blocked them because I don't care. They can continue having fun in their community, I can be blissfully unaware of it. Win win.

Make the threadiverse your own and it's far more enjoyable than everything all at once.

I feel there's more unusual people than nahh, but nobody talks about (due to risk of presenting as abnormal). But if you can set aside the fear of being ostracized... everyone is pretty strange in their own ways. Show me a "normal" person, and I'll show you someone who's still learning. Appreciate you as you are though, we're all out here learning <3

I’ve never met a normal person in my life. Errbody be crazy in their own ways. I say this as a very average-looking dude.

I'm a little weird, but my front page has none of that. Am I doing lemmy wrong?

[–] BeatL@pawb.social 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

You can do an easy test. Use a sentence like "windows is the obviously the best operating system, they integrate AI so well"

If you have no answer, not a single downvote you are doing lemmy wrong xD

Jokes asides welcome to you and others in a collection of places where freedom and community truly mean something. UwU

let me try:

Apple make the best hardware, nothing can compare to my M2 and it's under-sized ssd. The fact that I can have such good hardware and still have a full Unix system is unbeatable.

Will that work?

I use Debian (mostly) btw

Nice try buddy, but you're wrong about that. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you, just how wrong you are about that... but you are wrong. I dunno about what exactly, but I do know I'm right and you're wrong /s

Glad to have ya around friend <3
