I'm gonna need some sauce on that, chief.
Starship Troopers amazing movie, definitely one of my top favorites
You should read the book.
The troops wear powered armor; they are fired out of giant guns at the planet; the Bugs carry weapons and know how to use them.
Also, in the book the cool flying scene is that the troops hold off on getting into the retrieval craft because one guy is being carried back. They launch too late and are going to miss rendezvous with the mother ship. The female captain has to calculate and fly to save them.
I’ve read the book and have a copy on my shelf. It’s wildly different from the movie.
Might I recommend Armor by John Steakley if you enjoyed Starship Troopers? Fantastic novel with a similar premise (powered armor, bugs, war on a foreign planet) but focuses much more on the PTSD and psychological aspect of warfare where Starship Troopers focuses more on doing your duty.
I'll see your 'Armor' and raise you 'The Forever War.' Joe Haldeman
It has a very 1970's take on sex, but the science is first rate and the story phenomenal.
Ooh I’ve heard that title, but not read it. Throwing that on my list.
I’ll read it after I finish Name of the Wind by Rothfuss. Enjoying the shit out of this one
Because I hate you and want to ruin your life.
Two words.
Adrian Tchaikovsky.
Bwah-ha-ha-ha!!
Already up-to-date on his Children of Time series. Fantastic. Tho I should check out his other works too
I think my first book of his was "City of Last Chances"
Fantasy about an occupied city. Really good.
The Forever War is really gud!
There's also John Scalzi's Old Man's War.
Which reminds me of an old, almost forgotten trilogy that deserves to be brought back.
Captain Cirroco Jones of the NASA ship Ringmaster is leading her crew on the first manned mission to Saturn. They discover a mysterious, uncharted moon and move in to investigate..
Titan, Wizard, and Demon by John Varley.
Thanks, should've recognised that one.
